Anemia is one issue, I had suffered from when I was 17 years old. I felt really weak and I couldn’t walk straight due to low blood level in my body.

Anemia takes place when body’s red blood count goes low. Red cells include hemoglobin, that delivers oxygen to organs as well as tissues.It decreases the oxygen carrying capacity of blood.Oxygen is required for energy production in us; hence, anemia decreases our productivity and makes us feel tired.

It is estimated that globally, around 1.62 billion people, which is 24.8% of the total population. In country like India, one in every two woman is anemic.

Anemia is more prevalent in women as compared to men and much more in developing countries as compared to the developed countries. It is estimated that about 20-40 % maternal deaths in India are due to anemia.

Types of anemia

There are several types of anemia and it is important to know the underlying cause of anemia to get a proper treatment for it.  The most common types of anemia are:

  • Iron deficiency anemia: It is caused due to lack of iron because of blood loss, increase in requirement during pregnancy, lactation and for growth during adolescence. It can be treated by intake of iron rich foods in diet and/or iron supplements.
  • Pernicious anemia: It is caused due to the deficiency of Vitamin B12. Vitamin B12 is required for formation of red blood cells. It can be caused due if the absorption of vitamin B12 is not occurring properly in the body or may be due to several other reasons.
  • Megaloblastic anemia: It is caused due to the deficiency of vitamin B12 or folate or both.
  • Hemolytic anemia: It is the condition in which red blood cells are removed and destroyed before their normal lifespan from the blood.
  • Thalassaemia: It is an inherited blood disorder that causes the body to make less hemoglobin and fewer red blood cells.

  1. Blend one beetroot and carrots together. You also need to take sweet potato in this mixture.
